What to expect the first week bald
The first week is mostly an adjustment for your own eyes. Other people notice for about a day and then forget. Here's the honest version.
Days one to two
Your head feels cold, every breeze is loud, and you'll touch it constantly. Some tightness or light redness is normal after a first shave. Moisturise, skip a second shave, and don't judge the look in bathroom lighting.
Days three to four
Stubble appears and the reflection stops surprising you. This is when most men decide whether they prefer a smooth shave or a light shadow. Both are fine.
Days five to seven
You settle into a rhythm: shave or clip, moisturise, SPF. Comments have stopped. What tends to remain is that you look decisive rather than someone managing a problem — which is the actual change.
Practical notes
- Sunburn on a new scalp is easy and miserable. Sunscreen from day one.
- Hats and hoods can irritate a freshly shaved head; give it a day.
- Sunglasses, a beard or heavier stubble help the whole face balance out.
- Expect one dumb joke from a friend. Beat them to it.
